Matchless Silver Arrow 397cc

1930, ERA Shed, On long term display

This bike was unusually advanced for its day but only about 500 were made. Distinctive features include linked front and back brakes, shaft drive magneto, a sprung frame with rear suspension and a clock on the instrument panel.

The engine was a “silent block” configuration, 400cc 26° V twin.

Matchless motorcycles had much success racing at Brooklands and held the world speed record in 1911 at 91.23mph.
